Founded on Field Experience

Garnet Glacier began in 2011 when three ecologists, tired of seeing environmental assessments treated as box-ticking exercises, decided to build something different. We wanted to demonstrate that rigorous science and commercial pragmatism could coexist.

That founding principle still guides everything we do. Every project receives genuine attention from experienced professionals. We don't farm work out to junior staff or rely on templated approaches. When you commission a survey, you get ecologists who know their taxa intimately and communicate their findings clearly.

Over the years, we've grown carefully. We've added specialists in areas where we saw consistent client need, always prioritising depth of expertise over breadth of services. Today, our team covers the full range of terrestrial ecology, with particular strength in protected species work and habitat creation design.

What Guides Our Work

Scientific Integrity

Our assessments are based on evidence, not assumptions. We apply appropriate survey effort and draw conclusions that the data actually supports. When uncertainty exists, we acknowledge it.

Client Partnership

We succeed when our clients succeed. That means understanding your constraints, communicating proactively, and delivering work that actually helps you move forward rather than creating more problems.

Practical Outcomes

Reports that gather dust help nobody. We focus on recommendations that can actually be implemented within real-world constraints of budget, timeline, and operational requirements.

Environmental Stewardship

We genuinely care about ecological outcomes. Our work aims not just to avoid harm but to identify opportunities for positive environmental change whenever possible.
